About Us

Meet Our Family
Hey y'all, we are the Tartt family. I am Sunshine and my husband's name is Jim. We have 3 children, Willow, Trapper, and Magnolia. Together, we make up our company, JB's Sopchoppy Sauce.
Our sauce recipe is over 40 years old and was created in Sopchoppy, FL (yes, it's a real place) by my husband's Uncle James "JB" Burge. Tragically, he passed away in 2010 from encephalitis. Even though it was hard to understand and the time, God had a plan. One divinely orchestrated happening lead to another and here we are.
Our family is blessed beyond measure to be able to spend each day working alongside each other. We appreciate the privilege of self-employment and praise Jesus for the opportunities that He continues to bless us with. Thank you so much for visiting our site and for your support!
Matthew 6:33

Who is JB?
Meet the original creator of JB’s Sopchoppy Sauce—the one and only James “JB” Burge. He was my husband Jim’s late uncle, and about 40 years ago, he got a hankering to create a sauce that would make sure he never missed another invite to an oyster roast, shrimp boil, or backyard cookout.
What he came up with was simple, flavorful, and downright addictive. It quickly became a favorite among friends and family, and before long, word spread across the tri-county area. But here’s the catch—JB didn’t sell it. Not a drop. Instead, he used it as leverage to score invitations to dove shoots, bass ponds, and game hunts. Smart man.
And yes—that picture on the left is really him. Back in the late ’80s, JB orchestrated that photo himself and got a kick out of it every single time he showed it off. We knew it had to be the face of the brand. The caricature on our label captures his larger-than-life personality perfectly—a little sweet, a little tangy, and packed with flavor… just like the sauce.
P.S. He is wearing pants… just tiny ones.

Where the HECK is Sopchoppy, FL?
Famous for JB’s Sopchoppy Sauce and the unique art of worm grunting (yes, it’s a real thing—just ask Mike Rowe, who came to Sopchoppy to learn it!), our little town hosts the annual Worm Grunting Festival every April.
Sopchoppy is tucked away about an hour south of Tallahassee and roughly 40 minutes east of Apalachicola. With just two stop signs on the main road and around 400 residents, it’s small-town living at its finest.
It’s about as close to “Mayberry” as you can get, and we like to say, “Sopchoppy and Easy Living Go Together.”
